The major accomplishment of last year was the completion of a $1.2 million improvement project at RHV that can only be described as eclectic. There is a new security entrance gate to the field, the parking lot was repaved and reconfigured, and security lighting was installed. New taxi-through and regular tie-downs were added, and we have a new segmented circle on the field.
The current buzz is the long-awaited completion of 100 new hangars at E16. This new capacity basically doubles the on-field population at E16, and we already have a full waiting list of prospective tenants. A ribbon-cutting ceremony to unveil this $5.5 million improvement is slated for late March, so watch for details. This project has prompted the addition of two Airport Operations Worker staff positions at E16, which will be filled with staff currently at other airports. Some technological enhancements are on the RADAR for 2006, including the purchase of an AWOS for both E16 and PAO. In addition, we will be receiving funding for a noise monitoring and flight tracking system (ANOMS) at RHV. Last but not least, we plan to re-roof the RHV terminal in what we anticipate will be the first step toward a complete terminal remodel in the not-too-distant future. All of us at the Airports strive to provide you with good customer service, and by informing you of changes as they happen we hope this newsletter plays a key role in that mission.
